Give password to your file or folder
The most common way now is by giving a password on each file or folder. Many document file like word or excel has a password feature to protect your file. You can also use third party protection software but some software is not free. This also has a weakness since there also much password cracker software. If you decide to use this, please find a good protection software by searching on web and read review about the software. Keep in mind also that you will keep your password in safe place also. The most safely place is your brain.
Change the extension of the file
Last stage for you is to change the file extension different from the original. For example: If you have a word document, you can change the file extension from "a.doc" to "a.zip" or "a.exe". It will show confirmation that if you change to this extension, the file will not usable. Choose yes. Now only you who know what really are the file extension. For opening just change the extension to the original source document.
